Letters from the sea
While most of us are facing isolation and lockdowns in our homes, my youngest brother Wilbur has been crossing the Pacific Ocean. They set sail 2 weeks ago, before shit got really weird.
As the news has trickled to them about this whole coronavirus thing, they’ve been worrying for us on land, and wondering what things might look like when they reach land themselves — in another 2 weeks.
Then yesterday, they got the email that their island destination has also closed its borders. They have nowhere to land.
Things are very uncertain, but they are in high spirits yet. From the latest crew email:
“If no land will receive us, we now belong to the water. We have no other options than to embrace the life of the pirate. Wilbur has always been a pirate, we need only to learn his ways to survive this strange new reality.”
I wonder how many other crews are in similar situations.
And I wonder what it’s like being up on the international space station right now.
